Liberty D’Aguilar Store has been a cornerstone of the D’Aguilar community for over 90 years. Situated at the intersection of D’Aguilar Highway and Mount Mee Road, the store has served as a vital hub for locals and travellers.
The town of D’Aguilar, named after British military officer Major General Sir George D’Aguilar, is nestled between the agricultural town of Wamuran and the renowned folk festival town of Woodford. With a population of approximately 1,500 residents, D’Aguilar embodies the charm of rural Queensland living.
The D’Aguilar Store building itself is heritage-listed, reflecting its historical significance and enduring presence in the area. Originally established in the early 20th century, the store has witnessed the evolution of the town and continues to resonate with the local community as an iconic symbol of D’Aguilar’s rich history.
In December last year, the store became part of the Samreen MSO group. This month, we had the opportunity to talk to one of the owners, Lovepreet (Love) Singh, sharing his tips to success!

What was a key focus when developing the offer?
“With the support and guidance from New Sunrise, we are confident that we have delivered a branded offer that honours the areas rich history and one that locals will continue to stop at.
It is still early day, but we have seen a marked increase in patronage every month since its opening.” Love said “Fingers crossed this continues.”
The site delivers to its customers not only a highly competitive fuel pricing strategy, but also a full range of groceries, frozen foods, general merchandise, newspapers, auto, cold drinks, salty snacks and quality food services.”
Have you engaged with the local community?
“Yes, it was one of the first considerations we had. Local community involvement is a key focus of all sites within the group and this store is no exception. We have engaged with the local school, club and hotel and provide them with fundraising support via monetary donations, raffles and product giveaways.”
“We have also indirectly supported locals by delivering a value offer with modern undertones that has been absent for decades. Our staff are always receiving positive feedback from customers about their appreciation with range, pricing and promotions. I think the recent introduction of the yellow shelf talkers, larger stickers and the continued focus of the “leader” promotions have been a significant contribution in delivering increased patronage.”
The team at Liberty D’Aguillar also actively shares New Sunrise social media content to engage with the local community, foster familiarity and encourage patronage.
What are your future plans for the store?
“We’re thrilled to be working on plans with the council for a brand-new, fully equipped kitchen that will allow us to serve up fresh, healthy and delicious meals to the D’Aguilar community during more hours of the day. Whether you are in a rush and need something quick to grab on the go, or you are looking for a hearty meal to fuel your day ahead, we will have something for you.”
