In 2024, we introduced the Golden Loo Award to recognise excellence in restroom facilities across our network. This year, at Iceworks 2025 in Dubai, we proudly celebrated stores that set the benchmark for clean, accessible, and well-maintained restrooms, because great bathrooms matter.
Restrooms are not just a convenience; they are a critical part of the customer value proposition, on par with coffee, food, and fuel. They reflect the overall standard of a store and influence how customers perceive our brand. Unfortunately, many QSR chains and major service stations have deprioritised this, with some eliminating facilities altogether or failing to maintain them properly.
The data speaks for itself: in the CMA Shopper Report (2019), 48% of respondents ranked clean bathrooms as “very important” when choosing a store, alongside store appearance and atmosphere. Poor restroom standards can negatively impact customer perception, while clean, well-stocked facilities send a clear message that we care about our customers and our business. They even generate positive buzz on social media.
The New Sunrise Golden Loo Award
Our goal is to change the perception of the “servo toilet” by recognising stores that take pride in their facilities. A Golden Loo store ensures restrooms are clean, available, and equipped with essentials like soap and hand towels. These stores become preferred destinations, not just for fuel and food, but for a complete, customer-focused experience.
