The fully independent New Sunrise Store, Liberty Narrandera is located in the central Riverina region of New South Wales. When the partners first purchased this site, they wanted to find a buying group that had not only a great program to run in store but the confidence of having a mutual partner with a set of common values. It is for this reason that New Sunrise has become an important partner in their store.
The New Sunrise Journey begins
One of the most important elements in creating success was to properly understand how the store could maximise what New Sunrise offers to the business. “We made sure whatever supplier was prescribed to us, we would try and follow as this was the best fit for the business as well as maximising the smiles for the iceworks conference. Another benefit of aligning with suppliers was to maximise the potential savings from engaging with recommended suppliers.”
Merchandising
The team at New Sunrise ensured that we had a modern looking floor plan with the latest planograms. “What we appreciated the most was supplier assistance given that we are not a metro town,” stated Patricia, Store Manager. As an independent service station, the team at Liberty Narrandera was pleasantly surprised by the way New Sunrise dealt with local product when this was suggested. Pat mentions the comments have been a well merchandised store, tickets everywhere offering value for the customers.
Branding
Having been a passport to profit member and aligning with all of the New Sunrise program, Sunny was going to be branded at Liberty Narrandera. Everyone, including the customers, have noticed that the store has had a major refresh. ‘Customers have asked whether we have created a brand-new store as a result of the new look. The Sunrise brand with the Jill and Jack’s and The Common good wall gives it a modern feel.’ The amount of advertising from both social media as well as TV regarding where to locate a Sunrise store is in Venu’s opinion a great way to get the message out to the public
Current New Sunrise initiatives
Liberty Narrandera is maximising the majority of initiatives which New Sunrise has offered to the store. From the Golden Loo, which in itself is based on having the best restrooms in the industry, to the Circana data collection, having Sunny in every part of the store from the fridges, to the gondola end and offering a sense of humor in store to the food offering, both Reddy, Madhu and Venu are simply amazed by the consistent offer new Sunrise has to our customers
Food Menu – Jill & Jack Pies and Common Good Coffee
We noticed an increase in overall sales particular through their café. “Our margins and profitability have increased since we decided to prep our own sandwiches and salad bowls in house rather than sourcing from the local bakery. The introduction of the Bakers Maison milk burger buns based on the advice of New Sunrises in house chef and food adviser, Martin, has delivered strong results and positive responses. We have reduced waste which adds to the bottom line. Martin has also further advised us with an updated menu and have installed new fryers as well as recommendations for cooking essentials. Further to this the addition of the Jill and Jack’s pies and sausage rolls has been a great element to the Grab It menu.”
As the Common Good Coffee is a quality coffee roasted bean and brand, the association of Beyond Blue with the coffee has been a great compliment. Both Reddy and Pat acknowledge the importance of Suicide prevention in these country towns and will support such a cause as it generally helps the common good of the local community.
Increases in Category
Having remerchandised the store and introduced new shelving, we have seen significant growth in all areas of the business. Shop sales have increased by 30% from previous year. Hot food is up 15%, beverages 43% and coffee sales 12%. The two main reasons behind this include the expansion of our product range in store and maintaining consistent stock levels. Through this, customers are often encouraged to buy multiple items thanks to value deals.
